Humboldt Hotsauce

Owners Calhoun Ferris and Heidi Ferris, are a husband and wife team living the hot sauce dream! Our company was born when two great friends sat around the Thanksgiving table to play music and enjoy exquisite food. Discussions of hot sauce, and Cal moving back to Humboldt began, after Cal and Heidi had closed their Portland based Restaurant "Cool Runnings Cafe" in 2006. It was at Cool Runnings, that the first batch of habanero-mango hot sauce was created. The hot sauce became so popular, that people were requesting to buy it out of 6 oz coffee cups. In 2009, Humboldt Hotsauce was launched and the journey began!

Over the past 9 years, we have obtained several awards including Scovie's, and 1st place at the World Hot Sauce Awards in Lafayette, LA. Our hot sauces are made with all natural ingredients, and feature a slow burn. Our dry rubs are perfect for grilling or for adding to your favorite soup, stew, or pasta dish. You can find our dry rubs on the website along with local stores in Humboldt County. 

We have also collaborated on two hot sauces. The first, is the "Smokin Hot Nooner" Hotsauce, which was a collaboration with Cafe Nooner Owners,Joe and Lorrena Filgas, in Eureka California. This hot sauce has great flavor and a mild heat profile with smoky chipotles, jalapeno, ginger, orange, onions, carrots and roasted pasilla peppers. 

The second collaboration, was with Sean Paxton aka, the Home Brew Chef, to create a new line of hot sauces called EAT BEER Hotsauce. The first of these hot sauces is the "Nor-Cal Mole" made with Anderson Valley Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout, organic cocoa nibs, blood oranges, kaffir lime leaves, black garlic and white miso with pasilla and Carolina reapers. This hot sauce is currently available on the Home Brew Chef website here, on the EAT BEER website, at Heat Hot Sauce Shop, and here on our website. Keep an eye out for more collaborations with Sean Paxton and the EAT BEER Hot Sauce line! 

Humboldt Hotsauce owners, Cal and Heidi Ferris operate the company together. Cal has been working as a Chef for over 25 years and has grown his love of food and sauces, into a passion for hot sauces. Cal has traveled all over the world and has a certain love for Caribbean, Creole and Island style foods. His hot sauce's feature flavors from his travels, with ingredients such as mango and pineapple, and other tropical ingredients. Heidi, has also worked in the Food and Beverage industry for over 25 years. The last 12 years, she has worked as an event planner both in Portland and in Northern California. She now works full time as VP of Sales and Marketing for Humboldt Hotsauce. Cal and Heidi currently make small batch hot sauce's out of Eureka, California.
